bathrooms

Just to prove how glamorous the life of a photographer is, my latest job was photographing bathrooms. I spent the other day in six different bathrooms created by The Brush's End in Danbury, CT. These were some beautifully designed high-end bathrooms.

You would think photographing a big inanimate object would be relatively easy, but there's a lot of different challenges that bathrooms present. First of all, they're usually pretty small. Even the biggest bathroom I was in was long and narrow, which doesn't offer a lot of chance to get a really wide shot. Then there's the mirrors and other shiny chrome parts that reflect everything, like any lighting, and me!

But all in all, it's pretty cool. And bathrooms don't talk back. Can you find the faucet in this great glass-bottomed sink below?

posters from The Talent Factory portraits

I'm very happy to be involved with The Talent Factory, a performing arts center in North Kingstown, RI. Once a year I photograph the dancers and actors before their annual performance. The girls (and a few boys) range in age from very young to teenaged and it's been great fun watching some of them grow over the last few years. Many thanks to Dana and her staff. This year I'm producing posters which I've got a couple of samples of here:

New bathroom publications with my photographs

My photographs of one of the bathrooms beautifully designed and built by Simply Baths have been printed in not one, but two recent publications from Creative Homeowner. The two-page spread below contains the photos and write-up (you may recall seeing that bathroom on the blog back in March).

two-page spread from The Best of Signature Baths

That spread is printed in the large format paperback book The Best of Signature Baths,

The Best of Signature Baths

and also in the Fall 2007 issue of Signature Kitchens & Baths magazine as part of their 9th Annual Design Awards.

The Bay Voyage food photographs

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing the work of Chef Michael Hervieux, Executive Chef at The Bay Voyage in Jamestown, Rhode Island. I worked with Kristin Love, their Catering Sales Manager, to set up a table for some images that they'll use in promotional materials for the restaurant and event dining. Then I had the fun of going down into their kitchen to capture Chef Hervieux at work, something I always enjoy doing. When it was over I got to take home a perfectly cooked filet and dessert for my wife. Perks! The captions below are mine. I probably don't do the menu descriptions justice.

Signature Kitchens & Baths annual Design Awards issue

Back in June I once again photographed some of the beautiful design and contracting work of The Brush's End and Simply Baths and for the third year in a row their work was a winner in the annual Signature Kitchens & Baths Design Awards issue. Below is the award-winning bathroom.

The Talent Factory's gigantic storefront window display

Readers of this blog may recall this image from my portrait day at The Talent Factory Performing Arts Center in North Kingstown, RI back in June.

Talent Factory 1

The Talent Factory's owner Dana Adames loved the above photo (it was one of my favorite's from the day as well) and when she wanted to have the five 8' windows of her studio's storefront tinted Dana decided on a vinyl photo display of my photograph. The printing came out great and it's a huge visual, even to cars driving by on Route 1. Thanks, Talent Factory!
