portrait of Brian and Lisa at Easton's Beach

What a glorious amount of sunshine Brian and Lisa had for their portrait on Easton's Beach this past weekend. They were in Newport on vacation for their 26th anniversary and their children decided a perfect anniversary gift was a portrait, since they hadn't had a true portrait of the two of them since their wedding. Hopefully it won't take 26 years for another!

Amy and Brad, September 28, The Towers in Narragansett, RI

The day started rainy but it never seemed to even slightly affect Amy's excitement about getting married to Brad and by the time the ceremony was over we had enough clear sky to have some beautiful formals outdoors. Afterward was a great party (with a great meal!) and it was my pleasure to be there. Thank you, Amy & Brad!

baby portraits—Brigid at 8 months

Many of my portrait sessions are with perennial families. Coming up in the next week or so you'll see photos on the blog of children you may recognize from previous postings. In addition to printing portraits for hanging on the wall at home or on a desk at work, I've set up my client proofs galleries to include all past and current sessions for my perennial clients. I've found that it creates a one-stop web site (password-protected) for families to see the growth of their children and pass it along to their family and friends.

During the first year of a baby's life they seem to change almost daily, so I recommend portraits more than once a year for the first year. My daughter gets the benefit of almost daily photography! Not every photo is what I would consider a wall-hanging work of art (I take snapshots too!) but some days we create something special. The last one's for fun—Brigid loves banging on the piano.

family portraits at King Park in Newport, RI

It's been about eleven months to the day since I last photographed this family (I try to avoid names when posting about young children). What a change in this adorable little boy, the biggest of course being that he moves. Non-stop. Which is always the case with one-year olds. In my opinion there's really only one way to photograph a child this active and that's to chase! I took many action photos and still managed to capture some of the whole family together.

With portraits I really work with the mindset that these are works of art for each family. With mostly everyone owning a digital camera now and filling their computers and online with snapshots I'm hoping to produce something that should exist off the screen with some timelessness and permanence. As with other photographs on this blog, below are some samples of how I can create art from raw photos.

Stacey and Michael, October 10, Richmond Country Club

It was a gorgeous autumn evening in rural Richmond, Rhode Island for Stacey and Mike's outdoor wedding. Not too cold, just the right amount of sunlight as it set across the greens—fall New England perfect. It was a very fun time and I appreciated being included in their night.

family portraits at home in Warwick, RI

On what was hopefully not the last gorgeous Saturday in October I had a great portrait session in Warwick, RI. The sun, water, wind, everything was just perfect for these photographs.

family portraits at Fort Adams / Eisenhower House, Newport, RI

Autumn suddenly arrived strong over the last week or so and the colorful fallen leaves are fun for kids to run through. This session was another multi-generational portrait with lots of great active little boys giving me some exercise.
